i intended to write a big shpeel about this but decided against it because i like things to speak for themselves but.

ok

this is coming from someone who reads homestuck casually. it’s never made me cry. it takes a lot to make me cry. but goddamn i had this song playing while i read the update and i fucking wept. it was perfect and this song was perfect because rose and dave sacrifice themselves for what is right but above that they sacrifice themselves for their children. children who they have never met and will never meet because they don’t exist yet and they’re okay with that because they love them already. it’s love in it’s purest form; unwavering and unselfish. to love someone so deeply that their life takes precedence over your own.

and they lay dying looking into the abyss and each others eyes all in the same moment and know they have done the right thing. they’ve won even though they’ve lost. and i want to scream and cry because this is one of the more emotional scenes i’ve seen from anything in a very long time and death scenes are so great. and i say that in the least morbid way possible. a person’s true character is revealed in their last moment of life and dave and rose live up to their titles in every way, a brave night and vigilant seer. i just. i love valiant deaths. i love gallant, courageous characters.
